Deborah Vance Bowie

Deborah Bowie serves as Assistant City Manager in Gainesville, FL, home to the pre-eminent University of Florida and the nation's No. 1 community college, Santa Fe.

 

Immediately prior, Deborah served as the organization's interim City Manager after joining the City as Executive Chief of Staff. Deborah joined the city after serving as President & Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of North Central Florida, where she led the Four-Star Charity Navigator rated agency for three and half years.

A native of Miami, FL, Deborah has more than 20 years of progressive managerial and executive experience in the chamber of commerce industry, media and local government sectors. Deborah once served as the youngest and first female chief of staff to the Mayor of Birmingham, AL, and the first Senior Public Information Officer for the Birmingham City Council.

 

In 2013, Deborah earned the national designation of Certified Chamber Executive (CCE), one of only a few hundred to receive the honor nationwide. Deborah is a graduate of organizational management studies at the Terry School of Business (University of Georgia), executive leadership studies at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and an alumnus of Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, LA. She has attended numerous professional development programs and is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration at the University of Central Florida.
